Summer time...

A little piece of life from Summer...

"The Local"

What a beautiful idea..

So a friend from Germany is getting married today! Another one of her friends decided to collect friends from all over the world (who she has met so far in her life) to make a book of treats for her to make! I thought I would share mine below as the big day is now here!

Banana Loaf (A.k.a Bananenbrot)

If you have any bananas that might be going mushy don’t throw them away! Make a banana bread to share and enjoy with friends and a cup of coffee!

Preparation time: Up to 30 mins

Cooking time: 45 mins - 1 hour

Oven temp: 180C/350F/Gas 4.

Ingredients:

·         285g/10oz plain flour

·          1 tea spoon bicarbonate of soda

·         ½ tea spoon salt

·         110g/4oz butter (plus extra for greasing)

·         225g/8oz caster sugar

·         2 free-range eggs

·         4 ripe bananas, mashed

·         85ml/3fl oz normal milk mixed with 1½  tea spoons lemon juice

·         1 tea spoon vanilla extract

How to:

1.       Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.

2.       Sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt into a large mixing bowl.

3.       In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar together by hand until light and fluffy.

4.       Add the eggs, mashed bananas, buttermilk and vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture and mix well. Fold in the flour mixture.

5.       Grease a 20cm x 12.5cm/8in x 5in loaf tin and pour the cake mixture into the tin.

6.       Transfer to the oven and bake for about an hour, or until well-risen and golden-brown.

7.       Remove from the oven and cool in the tin for a few minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely before serving.

Sit back, relax and enjoy!

Post Fun a day - May the fun continue for the rest of the year

Just a quick snap of my efforts : Fun a Day exhibition 2014.

(The breakdown: Pricking your finger can be frustrating but put that into your daily routine a recommended “6 times a day” can be somewhat trying. With the opportunity of Fun a Day I wanted to make this process a more enjoyable requirement but I couldn’t even manage that!

With my measly 54 test strips from over 31days (an average of 1.7 tests a day) my average level came to 13.02. (a normal average being between 4-7).

If nothing else, I have learnt that my control in my hands (quite literally) and aim to improve the amount of finger pricks I make)

Fun a Day

So it's a New Year and a new round of Fun a Day in Dundee!

  (Brief: make time for "fun" each day of the month of January 2014)

I've decided on a constant for my montly project...it started off a bit rusty but now that I know what I want, I hope to achieve it by the end of the month.

Not wanting to give to much away before its complete but here's a clue:

So Christmas is slowly approaching and that means Christmas cards!

 This year I decided to take part in the Tigerprint Christmas Icons competition. It was a lovely surprise to find my design in the 1st round of shortlists alongside some beautiful entries.

My concept was based around Santa and his elves (also known as little helpers!)...

When I was younger I was always told that you are always being watched (just so Santa can make sure that you are being good the whole year round!)

So, getting into the spirit...

An exhibition. A collection of "recycled" works from various artists..

 

 Although wishing that I had spent some more time on these, I displayed these little lanterns. The aim is for these old tin cans and jars to be used as welcome signs on dark nights or in the home to brighten up living spaces. Simple.

 

(One of my favourite parts...free seeds for growing some veg)

 

I really liked the idea of flat pack gifts which can grow or develop into something else. A.k.a be recycled! I hope to expand on it.
