So the story begins on Friday but the buisness started on the Saturday :p

So I'm back home for Easter and was looking through my old Guide and Scout stuff and found my Diary from a camp I had been too. Nothing like a little bit of nostalgia to bring on the Summer!

Sommartider 07.

In 2007 I was lucky enough to be selected for an international camp in Sweden. The group consisted of myself, 9 other Guides and 2 leaders. The camp lasted for 9 days and we spent 12 days in total in Sweden. My experience was one that will never leave me :p. Haha nternational relations Ftw! These are just the drawings I made to sum up my time! :)

Okay! So I had typed out a "wounderful" new exert! (Ha, I wish :P), and thougt that I had saved it but alas..looks like I will have to restart :(!! Boo!

Anyway! Looking back at my past work I guess it would be wrong to say that I never subconsciouslly make my self or at least my feelings the protagonist of my pieces.

In our 1st semester we were given the challenge to paint a personality onto wood. I've never really been a fan of painting, possibly because I was never too good at it and secondly I can't remember the last time I willingly picked up a paintbrush! I'm happy to say however that I was truely ecstatic with my outcomes! My 1st piece was inspired by my Japanese evening classes, I decided to portray myself as a somewhat opposite. I used acrylic paint and although this piece may look unfinished I quite like its current aesthetic!

The cherry blossom has been said to symbolize the brevity of life as the flowers only bloom for a short period of time.

"It encourages everyone to appreciate what little time they have on this Earth. It promotes gratitude for what they are given. It could remind you that all things pass in time and that bad situations won't last forever."

I felt this certain tree could relate somewhat to my one week experience ^__^.

Although paint still might not be my first choice of media, I have changed my opinions! I was quite impressed with my efforts and won't hide from the idea of using paint again! In recent news, DOJ have the 1st year portraits up once again. It has inspired me once more, hopefully not to veer off my essay writting too much, and to think of another self portrait! So, I guess all I can say is tbc! ;D

Get this show on the road!

To be honest, I feel that I never really did kick off to a great start with this blogging buisness! Lack of scanning or taking photos or even just the general fear of writting may have held me back! Haha! Anyway this is going to change! Seeing as most of my efforts go into my uni work I guess the best place to start would be by putting some of the past projects up. So..lets begin with..me?

The first etching I made was a little self portrait ^__^. This piece was produced by dipping a zinc metal plate into an acid bath for different lengths of time. After sketching my drawing onto the covered plate, I exposed certain areas that needed to be darker and allowed the acid to erode into the metal. I also used a method called Sugar lift. This can be seen on the cookie. It involves randomly dipping liquid onto the plate and leaving it for a while and again putting it into the acid. Each sugar lift is unique as this process cannot be controlled. It reminds me of marballeing!!! I really enjoyed the process of etching and the week worth of studio time really relaxed me. We also had a chance to try another work shop where we used the process of mezzotint and dry point etching.

Dry point is basically scratching into the metal yourself and depending how hard you press depends on how dark your lines will become. Due to the outcome and possibility of multiple prints I was going to produce a Christmas card of a white rabbit. I started of by printing onto white paper and began to experiment with different colours of papers and inks to try and get a wintery feel.

The last technique I learnt was mezzotint. This is where you use a special device which looks a bit like a pencil with a bit of sand paper attached to the tip. It is similar to dry point and does not require acid either. Out of the 3 techniques I feel this was my favourite. Apart from carrying around the instruments and a piece of metal this type of art work can be taken anywhere :)!

In conclusion I like the fine line asethetic and also the large textured covering obtained by etching which would not work from using a pencil or pen alone.

Point to Note: When printing text goes backwards!!!

So again this may be a bit random but it was inspired by a silly argument ha.

Father: " Oh look at the chickens!"

Mother: "They're not chickens."

Father: "What? What are they then?!"

Mother: "They're hens."

Ha..:) quite possibly a you had to be there moment :P. A quick wee drawing on Paint ;) with some old images i found from back in the day on my pc and memory stick ^__^.

Moral...even if you think something is wrong sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and bear it :)!

Simple things eh ;)

I don't know about you but I know that I'm one of those people who are gutted when they arrive at McDonalds at 20 past 10 in the morning to be told that the breakfasts have finished.

Anyway, for a few years now I've always randomly scribbled little scenarios..some that relate to my life and some that don't. If you know me you might understand, if not I hope it makes a little bit of sense ^__^

I'm pretty sure I drew this during Summer (not that it really matters)...

Basically it's to say that some things are better than a McDonalds Breakfast :P.

And...if you don't like that then all I can say is that somethings in life are better than Disney Land :).
