Departures lounge...

S'no that cold!...

When in Lapland..Finns just do! So even when it reaches -31oC!! It's on with the work! :D

Myself and my beautiful assistant (or maybe it was the other way around..:P! Team work either way)!

We worked from 9 in the morning til around 5.30 (with the essential coffee breaks of course).

With a team made up of several groups we worked on four bedroom suites of a snow hotel and its bar and restaurant!

The back wall, heavy lifting required :! We decided on our own themes and ours was "birds..the sky"..yeah they are not arrows..:P

The idea would be that the clients would be sleeping on cloud 9! (or cloud 7 in Germany :S!!)!

I absolutley loved my time at the snow hotel and getting a chance to carve into some "snow" and ice was definetly worth braving the cold! Although my face suffered slightly with what I was told was "frost nip" I would go back in a heart beat :D! Who knows what the future holds..!

Right now I'm at the stage of not wanting to ever leave. Over half way through and what have I got to show for myself..

Reality struck and I realsied that when I get back to Scotland, I will properlly need to get my head down and attend to some serious buisness! Yup, it's dissertation time. Writting has never been my strong point.

Thats not to say that uni life here in Finland isn't serious! Its just..I feel so happy and inspired here...maybe I will use my experience of Finland as the topic of disccusion. I feel that some important emails with my endless questions will have to be sent very soon!

I need to remember that sometimes actions speak louder than words and sometimes a picture tells 100.

Vihaan polkupyörät...

So after being in Lapland for about 2 months now, I have learned that I hate bicylces. I have almost been run over, been scared to death by a sharp ring at 8am in the morning and generally find it difficult to ride one! So..this drawing is part of one of my projects that I will hand in at the end of the semester.

Lapland, the adventure begins...

As part of an Erasmus I have decided to go back to my routes and study in Finland. I will be here for four months to take in the culture, the ways of the people and hopefully improve my Finnish!! This place is remarkable. The landscape so far has been amazing and is capable of triggering a vast amount of emotcions to anyone who is here to experience it.

But anyway! A trip into an original Lappish village...

After passing this building so many times and falling in love with whats happened to it, I finally managed to get a dodgy phone picture of it.

I think it has possibly inspired me to think more about colour.

The start of the Q.t's

Back in the good old school days, I used to sit beside a girl called Susanne. We were in a class "fool of clowns" ;).

We had a Q.T of a teacher who was too kind to do anything about them and sadly she got a little bit walked over at times. Susanne was about the 2nd name on the register but the class always noised up before her name was read out.

She was quite a quiet person but one day she lost the rag and finally the class was silent enough to hear all the 30 something names.

Inspired 2006.

I was a little bit late on my Spring cleaning but managed to get rid of a lot of old "junk" last night. I came upon a stash of my old drawings and I mean old.

After studying Illustration for a year, I have become more open to the idea that "anything goes"..well....things that might not have been expected go! I wonder what they would think of this "beautiful story" created by a much younger me. It made me smile and question what actually runs through kids heads LOL!

I found this drawing that I did after the 1st year of uni. I guess it was a reflection of the past months and also a narrative of what was to come...=] I did'nt relate it to any music at the time but as I was listening to some tunes earlier on today I felt that this song pretty much summed up the feelings of my self and those back home at the time, they know who they are :)!

For the first time in over a year I went swimming. I've never been a pro but luckily managed to stay afloat, got down some flumes and realised how much fun it can be haha! Guess little Patrick is just dissapointed that I did'nt need his life guard skills today! Ship ahoy :D!

Show You're Working

So to conclude to our 1st year of specializing in Illustration, our class put on an exhibition! It lasted for a week and I think it was a good wee success! :D

As we're still in Spring time I thought I'd upload my one and only animation (so far!!)!

The entire making took "6 days". From the inital idea to the completion of all of the drawings and the noises which were quickly recorded thru a dodgy microphone :D! Fun times!
